Gallant Act, - The Rev. Rowland Hughes, BD, pastor of Minny Street Welsh Congregational Church, Cardiff, who preached at the anniversary services at Lammas Street Chapel on Sunday, performed a gallant act at the Cardiff G.W.R Station on Saturday when waiting on the No. 3 platform for a train to convey him to Carmarthen. In the bustle of the moment a lady fell off the platform in front of an approaching train. Mr. Hughes who was standing close by, immediately jumped to her assistance, and with much promptitude lifted her body on to the platform. The waiting passengers held their breath as Mr. Hughes clambered from his perilous position, and ready hands were outstretched to pull the heroic minister out of danger. They succeeded in doing so just as the engine crashed by. Mr. Hughes, who was not known to the passengers on the platform hastily and unostentatiously took his seat in the train and departed before his identity became known.
Gwych o stori, gwych o gofnod: gweinidog yn dod i’r adwy. Ystyriwn yr wythnos hon felly Gallant Act y Parchedig Rowland Hughes. Ni fu erioed fwy o angen am gallant acts. Yr ateb i hyn o fyd yw amrywiol a chyson gallant acts. Byddwn yn barod ein cymorth, beth bynnag bo’r sefyllfa neu’r gofyn, heb anghofio un tro ein bod wrth wneud, yn plygu i ewyllys ein Harglwydd Iesu. I’r gwaith o gynorthwyo pobl y rhoes Iesu ei fryd, ei amser a’i fywyd, gan fyned oddi amgylch gan wneuthur daioni (Actau 10:38): lleddfu gofidiau, esmwytháu beichiau a chodi’r gwan i fyny: gallant acts bo un.
Yn lleol, a ledled byd, Corff Crist yw’r Eglwys, felly nid dweud y drefn wrth y byd yw ei phriod waith; nid concro’r byd, na’i gyfundrefnu, ond cynnig cymorth iddo: fel unigolion ac fel eglwys mentrwn ambell gallant act: maddeuant, trugaredd, tynerwch, tosturi, cariad, caredigrwydd. Pobl y gallant acts sydd yn dod â chymorth Duw yng Nghrist o fewn cyrraedd pobl.
